Profile of International Home Buying Activity: Total international sales in U.S. residential properties totaled $75 billion during April 2019 to March 2020, a 5 percent decline from the previous 12-month period, according to an annual survey from the National Association of Realtors®.
Five countries accounted for nearly half (49 percent) of the dollar volume of purchases by foreign buyers: China, Canada, Colombia, India and Mexico. For the seventh consecutive year, China exceeded all other countries in dollar volume of purchases, buying an estimated $11.5 billion worth of residential property. Buyers from Canada came in second, with $9.5 billion worth of property, followed by the Mexico $5.8 billion, India, $5.4 billion and Colombia, $1.3 billion. Look at this profile to see who is buying, what they are buying and where they are buying.
Case Studies: Global opportunity lies where people least realize – not in large, urban markets known for being magnets to multinational organizations and immigrant communities – but in small, metro and rural regions. Knowing what the statistics are telling us, NAR Global has compiled Local Market Assessments for areas not commonly thought of as “global” to show REALTORS® in those areas that there IS a lot of global influences and opportunities to be made. If you are planning to hold a CIPS Institute and you are in one of the states we have profiled, please use this information to help build interest for the courses.
You can access the case studies here.
REALTOR.com® International: Realtor.com® International is a global listing site provided by realtor.com®. This global portal features international listings, translation services in 11 languages, and currency & unit conversion features. There are more than 4.5 million active listings on the site, from over 70 countries around the world. All U.S. residential for-sale and rental listings that appear on realtor.com® automatically are displayed on realtor.com® International. With over 1 million unique international consumers searching the site each month, this free service means true global exposure for U.S. Listings.
