Is there really such a thing as a move-in ready home? Probably not. Among existing homes, every property requires work, some more than others. Even buyers of new construction have to budget for painting walls, purchasing window treatments, landscaping, adding a deck, etc.
It looks like 2018 will be a big year for home renovations. Harvard University’s Joint Center on Housing Studies estimates that spending on repairs and improvements will be close to $340 billion this year, 7.5 percent higher than 2017, and the largest annual increase since 2007.
